Unexpected Times
by Aaron Terry

Sometimes on our life's path come those unexpected twists and turns;
Often painful predicaments and if given the chance, these times
     we'd certainly spurn.
But to do such things would require authority with which we were not bestowed.
So instead we must somehow learn to cope and ease the burden of our load.

Many times these events rear their heads in our lives with little or no cause at all,
But most times we still try to blame our actions and pinpoint the moment
     of our fall.
In retrospect, we may find many instances where we question the course
     that was taken.
And we wrongly punish ourselves over what may have been and our self-esteem
     is shaken.

But it is in these times we must remember that the blame is not ours to take,
And that we are merely the victims of the situation and the catalyst was
     not our mistake.
It is by this acceptance that we begin the sometimes long, arduous
     process of healing.
Our perseverance will clearly make us stronger and better prepare us for
     life's next dealing.

Along your life's path from here will come more unexpected twists and turns;
Often these will be times of pure happiness, like those for which people
     commonly yearn.
And the joy of those days will seem even brighter, since you've dealt
     with past misfortunes.
May many of these moments come your way and do so in exceedingly
     great portions.
